  • What is Mino's handmade washi...?

  • Masu:When first used, a hinoki (Japanese cypress) masu releases a pleasant, natural fragrance. Over time, as it is used, the wood deepens in color, gradually developing a rich amber hue.

What happens if the washi bag gets wet?

The washi used in Washika's bags is coated with a konjac glue layer, which prevents water from immediately penetrating the material. However, as it is not completely waterproof, some water may eventually seep into the surface over time. Even if water does seep in, the bag’s strength will not be compromised, nor will its shape deform. If the bag gets wet from rain, simply allow it to dry, and it will return to its original condition, ensuring it remains safe and reliable for use.
Please check out our video demonstrating the durability of washi paper when exposed to water.

Will the washi paper tear with use?

The thick, hand-made washi paper used in Washika bags is exceptionally durable and distinct from ordinary Western paper. Its unique fiber structure makes it highly resistant to tension and friction, ensuring that it does not tear or wear down at the edges through everyday use. Unless subjected to sharp objects or extreme force, it will not develop holes or tear.
Please check out our video demonstrating the durability of washi paper.

How should I care for my washi bag?

No special care is required. If the bag gets wet, gently wipe off the moisture as soon as possible and allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area. This will help preserve the material's characteristics, ensuring it lasts for a long time.
