This elegant tote bag is crafted entirely from handmade washi paper, created using traditional Japanese techniques.  While minimalist in design, the unique texture of the washi adds an undeniable charm to the bag.

You can choose between two patterns: one with plain washi on both sides, and one with the calligraphy of "福" (fuku), meaning "happiness," written on one side. The characters are not printed but are meticulously handwritten.

Using Mino handmade washi paper and Italian leather, this tote bag is crafted by expert artisans, allowing you to fully experience the high quality of each material.

The bag offers ample storage space, making it perfect for a variety of everyday situations. Its durable leather handles and reinforced leather bottom provide excellent reliability for daily use. Unlike regular paper, washi is tear-resistant and does not become soft even when exposed to rain.

Combining simplicity and practicality with refined, elegant style, this tote bag is the perfect addition for those wishing to incorporate Japanese craftsmanship and individuality into their everyday life. This beautifully crafted bag is sure to add a new dimension to your style.

Please Note: This item is made to order and will ship approximately one month after the order is placed.

Made in Japan

  • Japanese Washi Paper: The washi paper made in Mino is carefully hand-crafted by skilled artisans, one sheet at a time. The washi used in Washika's bags is a special thick paper with enhanced strength, made exclusively for Washika.
  • Italian Leather: The combination of traditional Japanese washi paper and the finest Italian leather creates a stunning contrast. We use full-grain napa leather, one of the highest quality materials among Italian leathers. This leather, which improves in color and sheen with use, is known for its exceptional durability and superior quality.
  • Dimensions: 29 cm x 23 cm x 5 cm / 11.4 in x 9.0 in x 1.9 in (Height x Width x Depth)
  • Materials: Cowhide leather (Italy), Japanese paper (Mino), Lining: 100% polyester
  • Product Code: S83-80180

What happens if the washi bag gets wet?

The washi used in Washika's bags is coated with a konjac glue layer, which prevents water from immediately penetrating the material. However, as it is not completely waterproof, some water may eventually seep into the surface over time. Even if water does seep in, the bag’s strength will not be compromised, nor will its shape deform. If the bag gets wet from rain, simply allow it to dry, and it will return to its original condition, ensuring it remains safe and reliable for use.
Please check out our video demonstrating the durability of washi paper when exposed to water.

Will the washi paper tear with use?

The thick, hand-made washi paper used in Washika bags is exceptionally durable and distinct from ordinary Western paper. Its unique fiber structure makes it highly resistant to tension and friction, ensuring that it does not tear or wear down at the edges through everyday use. Unless subjected to sharp objects or extreme force, it will not develop holes or tear.

How should I care for my washi bag?

No special care is required. If the bag gets wet, gently wipe off the moisture as soon as possible and allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area. This will help preserve the material's characteristics, ensuring it lasts for a long time.
